Almost a tribute to chauvinism. Over the years I’ve heard a whole lot of people in relationships call themselves “givers,” while I watch their parters deteriorate before my eyes into people who have totally lost themselves and have nothing left in their lives except the other partner. This, BTW, also seems to be the point at which the first partner loses interest (”s/he’s not the man/woman I fell in love with!”). Cynical, yeah, I know. It happens to men and women equally...I just had an easier time telling the story from a guy’s perspective ;-)
